Average position and market share

See how average position and market share answer narrower questions than your overall visibility score.

Your visibility score tells you the overall picture. Average position and market share answer two narrower, useful follow-up questions: when you do show up, how well do you rank, and out of everyone AI names in your category, how much of that attention is actually going to you?

Average position

Average position (shown as something like "#1.8") is the mean of your rank across only the runs where your brand was actually mentioned. Runs where you weren't mentioned at all are excluded from this number entirely, they aren't counted as a bad rank, they're just left out.

This is intentionally different from how the visibility score works. Visibility score counts a non-mention as a 0 and folds it into the average, because "how often do you show up" matters to that number. Average position answers a narrower question: "when the AI does mention me, how good is my position?" Those are two separate signals reported as two separate numbers on purpose.

Worked example: across 5 runs, your brand was mentioned in 3 of them, ranking 1st, 2nd, and 2nd.

average position = (1 + 2 + 2) / 3 = 5 / 3 = 1.7

The other 2 runs, where you weren't mentioned, don't factor into that 1.7 at all.

Market share

Market Share is a separate metric from visibility score, and it answers a more position-blind question: out of every mention event for every tracked brand (yours and your competitors) in your selected window, what share belongs to you?

market share = your mentions / (your mentions + every competitor's mentions) x 100

Worked example: in your selected window, your brand was mentioned 12 times across all your tracked runs, and your three tracked competitors were mentioned 18, 10, and 8 times respectively.

market share = 12 / (12 + 18 + 10 + 8) x 100 = 12 / 48 x 100 = 25%

This treats every mention as equal, it doesn't care whether a mention landed 1st or 5th, only that it happened. That makes it a simpler, blunter number than visibility score, but a useful one: it tells you what fraction of the AI conversation in your category is actually about you.

Trend arrows

Your dashboard shows Up, Down, or Stable trend indicators next to key metrics. These compare the average of the more recent half of your runs in the selected window against the average of the older half of that same window. A swing of 5 points or more in either direction shows as Up or Down; anything smaller shows as Stable.

Trend arrows next to each metric compare the recent half of your window against the older half, and only a swing of 5 points or more shows as Up or Down.
