What to Show a Client in the First 30 Days
Learn what to present to a newly onboarded client before you have enough history for a trend line.

You just onboarded a new brand and a client wants to see progress, but you don't have any history yet. Trend lines need weeks of data to mean anything, so what do you actually put in front of them?
Don't lead with a trend
A brand-new account has no baseline to compare against, so a visibility trend line, a "growth" chart, or an "improvement over time" claim won't have anything real behind it yet. Trying to force one this early either looks flat and unconvincing or, worse, misrepresents a single early data point as a trend. Skip it for now.
What to show instead
Everything you need to demonstrate real, current value is already there, it's just evidence rather than a trend:
- Current mentions. Show exactly which tracked prompts the brand is already showing up in, right now, across which AI models.
- Recent Chats. Pull up the actual AI conversations where the brand was mentioned. This is concrete, readable evidence, a real chat transcript showing the AI naming the brand, not an abstract score.
- The Sources tab. Show the real, live URLs that AI models are citing today when answering questions in the brand's category, including pages that are already citing the brand's own site.
Together, these give a client something more convincing than a chart in the first 30 days: proof that the tracking is real and that there's already something happening worth paying attention to, backed by actual citations and actual AI responses rather than a projection.
Setting expectations on trends
Be upfront with the client that trend lines and period-over-period comparisons become meaningful once there's enough tracking history behind them, generally after a few weeks of runs on a daily or every-2-days cadence. Frame the first reporting period as "here's what's real right now" and the following ones as "here's how it's moving," so the client isn't expecting a growth chart in week one and isn't disappointed when it isn't there yet.
