What is AI Peekaboo?
Learn the core concepts behind AI Peekaboo and why tracking your brand in AI answers matters.

People used to search Google and click a blue link. Now they ask ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity a question and get an answer with no links at all, or an AI-generated summary sitting on top of the search results. If your brand doesn't come up in that answer, you lose the customer before they ever see a website, yours or a competitor's.
AI Peekaboo tracks whether, where, and how your brand shows up when people ask AI assistants questions related to your business. It measures the same kind of thing rank trackers have measured for traditional search for years, except the "search results" are conversational answers from ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode.

The core concepts
A handful of terms show up across the dashboard. Once you have these, the rest of the product is easy to read.
Brand is the company or product you're tracking. If you run an agency, each client gets their own brand.
Prompt is a real question a potential customer might type into an AI assistant, for example "best project management tools for teams" or "[competitor] alternatives." You choose which prompts to track (see choosing what to track).
Model is one of the five AI engines Peekaboo checks: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode. Every plan tracks all five.
Run is one execution of one prompt against one model. If you track 20 prompts across 5 models, that's 100 runs per analysis cycle.
Mention happens when an AI's answer names your brand (or a competitor). Peekaboo reads every AI answer and records every company mentioned in it, not just yours, so it can tell you where you rank against the field.
Visibility is the headline metric: a 0-100 score summarizing how consistently and how prominently your brand shows up across your tracked prompts and models. The full formula has its own article, because it's worth understanding in detail.
Citations are different from mentions. A citation is when an AI model uses your website as a source for its answer, even if it never says your brand name out loud. You can be cited without being mentioned, and mentioned without being cited. Both matter, and they're tracked separately (see Visibility vs. citations).
Competitors are other brands you track side by side with your own. They go through the exact same scoring pipeline you do, so the comparison is apples to apples.
Why this matters
If nobody is checking, you genuinely don't know whether AI assistants are recommending you, ignoring you, or recommending your competitors instead, for the exact questions your customers are asking. AI Peekaboo turns that blind spot into a number you can track over time, compare against competitors, and use to decide what content or outreach to prioritize next.
