AI search is changing how brands get discovered. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini are answering questions that used to go to Google, and if your brand isn't showing up in those answers, you're losing ground you can't even see.
Ahrefs Brand Radar is built for exactly that problem. It promises the largest AI visibility database on the market, zero setup time, and the ability to monitor any brand across AI platforms alongside traditional SEO metrics. Big claims.
This review breaks down what Ahrefs Brand Radar actually does, where it delivers, and where it falls short, so you can decide whether it belongs in your stack.

What Is Ahrefs Brand Radar?
Ahrefs Brand Radar is an AI visibility monitoring tool that tracks how brands appear in AI-generated answers across major platforms. It sits within the broader Ahrefs suite, alongside tools like Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, and Rank Tracker, but it can also be used as a standalone product with its own pricing tier.
The core promise: see how any brand shows up in AI search, monitor branded search volume, track web mentions, and follow video and Reddit visibility, all from one place.
Unlike tools that rely on synthetic prompts, Ahrefs Brand Radar pulls from a database of 199M+ search-backed prompts. That means the queries it tracks reflect real user behavior, not made-up scenarios. The index covers six platforms: AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity.
It is worth noting that Brand Radar is partly a standalone product and partly a gateway to the broader Ahrefs ecosystem. The free and lower tiers give you AI visibility data; the deeper Search Demand and Web Visibility reports require upgrading to an Ahrefs plan.
Key Features
AI Visibility Index
Brand Radar gives you access to 199M+ monthly prompts across six platforms. AI Overviews alone accounts for over 95 million prompts monthly, with AI Mode adding another 50 million. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Perplexity each contribute roughly 13.5 million prompts per month. You can search any brand, product, topic, or person and see where they appear across these platforms without setting up a single tracking project first.
AI Share of Voice
This metric shows what percentage of AI conversations mention your brand. Rather than just a presence/absence signal, Share of Voice gives you a competitive context. If you are at 46% AI Share of Voice and ranking first among competitors, that is a meaningful signal. If you are at 3%, you know there is a gap.
Custom Prompt Tracking
Beyond the index data, you can set up custom prompts to track specific questions your audience actually asks. This is available for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot. Custom prompts come in three tiers:
Basic: $50/mo, 2,500 checks/month, overage at $0.020/check
Growth: $100/mo, 7,000 checks/month, overage at $0.015/check
Scale: $250/mo, 25,000 checks/month, overage at $0.010/check
This is where Brand Radar shifts from passive research to active monitoring. You are tracking the sales-driving questions in your category, not just broad brand mentions.
Search Demand
Monitor branded search volume growth to understand whether your broader awareness efforts are translating into people actively searching for you. This adds a traditional SEO data layer alongside the AI visibility picture.
Web Visibility
Track which publications and domains are citing your brand organically. With 1.8M+ web mentions indexed, this gives you a view of the content ecosystem that feeds AI-generated answers. Web Visibility requires an Ahrefs plan upgrade beyond the standalone Brand Radar tiers.
Video Visibility
Find brand mentions across YouTube and TikTok videos. TikTok tracking is listed as coming soon, but YouTube monitoring is live. Useful for brands active in video content or influencer marketing.
Reddit Visibility
Search across Reddit results already ranking in Google. Reddit threads frequently surface in AI-generated answers, so knowing which subreddits are talking about your brand matters more than it used to.
Unlimited Projects, Zero Setup
One of Brand Radar's most practical advantages: no configuration needed to start. You can research any brand or competitor immediately without building out a project first. Unlimited projects mean you are not capped on how many brands you analyze.
Pricing
Brand Radar has two pricing paths depending on how you want to use it.
Standalone Brand Radar (Custom Prompts only):
Plan
Price
Monthly Checks
Basic
$50/mo
2,500
Growth
$100/mo
7,000
Scale
$250/mo
25,000
Standalone pricing covers custom prompt tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot. The AI Visibility Index (research mode, no custom tracking) appears accessible without a paid plan, but custom monitoring requires one of these tiers.
Ahrefs Plans (include Brand Radar + full suite):
Plan
Price
Lite
€119/mo
Standard
€229/mo
Advanced
€419/mo
All Ahrefs plans include Brand Radar alongside the full suite of tools. The Advanced plan adds Web Visibility, Search Demand, and the deeper reporting layer that turns Brand Radar into a comprehensive brand intelligence tool.
For teams already paying for Ahrefs, Brand Radar is effectively included in what they are already spending. For teams evaluating it as a standalone AI visibility tool, the standalone tiers are more accessible.
Best For
Ahrefs Brand Radar makes the most sense for:
SEO teams already on Ahrefs who want to extend their existing toolset into AI visibility without paying for a separate platform
Competitive intelligence use cases where you need to monitor any brand in your category, not just your own
Research-heavy workflows where zero-setup access to a large AI visibility index is more valuable than deep per-brand tracking
Brands tracking Google AI Overviews and AI Mode specifically, where Brand Radar's Google-heavy database (145M+ prompts in Google alone) gives it an edge
It is less suited for agencies needing white-label reporting, teams that need sentiment analysis or actionable GEO recommendations, or brands that want dedicated support and deep per-prompt analysis.
How to Maximize Value from Ahrefs Brand Radar
Start with competitive research before setting up custom prompts. The index gives you free access to see how competitors show up across 199M+ prompts. Use this to identify which platforms and topics your competitors are winning before you decide what to track.
Map your custom prompts to the buyer journey. Track the questions your prospects ask when evaluating solutions in your category, not just branded queries. The platforms where those questions get answered are where you need visibility.
Cross-reference web visibility with AI visibility. When you see a publication consistently cited in AI answers, that is a signal to prioritize getting coverage there. Web Visibility data makes this connection explicit.
Use Reddit Visibility as an early warning system. Negative or misleading threads that rank in Google tend to surface in AI answers. Monitoring Reddit gives you a heads-up on reputation issues before they compound.
How It Compares
vs. AI Peekaboo
AI Peekaboo is a dedicated AI visibility platform built specifically for brands and agencies. Where Brand Radar is one module within Ahrefs' broader SEO suite, AI Peekaboo is entirely focused on AI search monitoring.
The practical differences matter depending on your use case. AI Peekaboo offers unlimited seats across all plans, white-label reporting for agencies, and daily tracking with source-level citation data. Brand Radar does not include white-label reporting and its accuracy for AI-specific tracking has drawn criticism in independent reviews. For agencies managing multiple client accounts, AI Peekaboo's structure is more operationally suited.
Brand Radar's advantage is integration: if you are already paying for an Ahrefs plan, you get Brand Radar included, along with the broader SEO data layer. AI Peekaboo is the better choice if AI visibility is your primary focus.
vs. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
If you are weighing your options between these two, there is a detailed comparison between Ahrefs Brand Radar and Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit. The short version: both are add-ons within existing SEO suites rather than standalone AI monitoring tools. Ahrefs Brand Radar has a larger prompt database; Semrush's toolkit integrates more tightly with content workflows. Neither is purpose-built for AI visibility the way standalone tools are.
Strengths
Largest database on the market at 199M+ monthly prompts, with strong Google AI Overviews and AI Mode coverage
Research any brand instantly without project setup, which is genuinely useful for competitive intelligence
Integrated with a full SEO suite, so teams already on Ahrefs get a lot for no additional cost
Search-backed prompts rather than synthetic ones, which improves the relevance of the data
Multiple data layers including AI, search volume, web mentions, YouTube, and Reddit in one interface
Weaknesses
Severe accuracy issues on ChatGPT and Perplexity: Independent testing by Writesonic found Brand Radar reported 3 brand mentions where 123 actually existed on ChatGPT (97.6% underreporting), and 6 mentions where 212 existed on Perplexity (97.2% underreporting). Google AI Overviews tracking fares better and receives more positive assessments
Cannot track dark queries: An estimated 88% of AI retrieval activity uses queries with zero Google search volume. Since Brand Radar's methodology is built on search-backed prompts from Google's index, the vast majority of AI search behavior is invisible to it
Missing major platforms: No tracking for Claude or Grok, both of which have significant and growing market share
No sentiment analysis: Brand Radar tells you whether your brand appears but not how it is framed in those answers
No actionable recommendations: Brand Radar surfaces visibility data but does not tell you what to do about it. There is no GEO roadmap, content optimization workflow, or prioritized action list
Full value requires a full Ahrefs plan: Web Visibility and Search Demand data are locked behind the main Ahrefs pricing tiers, which start at €119/mo. Covering all six platforms with custom prompt tracking adds a significant bundle cost on top
Not agency-friendly: No white-label reporting, and the per-domain pricing model scales poorly. Running Brand Radar across ten client domains can push costs to $8,000+/month
Snapshot-based methodology: Brand Radar captures AI responses at timed intervals. Since AI platforms can produce different outputs for the same prompt within hours, snapshot tracking misses real-time variation in how brands appear
Is Ahrefs Brand Radar Worth It?
It depends entirely on what you are already using and what you need the data for.
If you are on an Ahrefs plan and have not explored Brand Radar yet, open it. The competitive research capability (zero setup, any brand, 199M+ prompts) adds real value to what you are already paying for, and the Google AI Overviews tracking specifically is one of the better implementations in the market. You are not paying extra during the beta phase.
If you are evaluating Brand Radar as a standalone AI visibility tool, the math gets complicated quickly. At the Basic standalone tier ($50/mo), you get custom prompt tracking on four platforms with 2,500 checks per month. To cover all six platforms with meaningful tracking volume, independent analysis puts total costs at $828 to $1,148 per month, roughly 2.5 times the industry average for AI visibility tools.
The accuracy issues on ChatGPT and Perplexity are a serious problem at any price. A tool showing you 3% of the actual brand mentions on those platforms is not a visibility tool, it is a false signal. Until Ahrefs addresses the snapshot methodology limitations, using Brand Radar as your primary source of ChatGPT or Perplexity data would be a mistake.
For Google AI Overviews and AI Mode tracking, Brand Radar is genuinely useful. For the rest, there are more accurate and more affordable alternatives.
Full transparency: I am the Founder and CEO of AI Peekaboo, and we are included in this comparison. I have spent time testing Brand Radar and speaking with teams that use it. Despite my connection to AI Peekaboo, this review is based on documented capabilities, published pricing, and independent assessments. I have tried to flag where Brand Radar genuinely leads and where it falls short, regardless of where that lands competitively.
