Semrush AI SEO Toolkit Review
We all know Semrush, they are one of the legacy and most well-known SEO tools out there. However, in this new AI search world, many would argue they are falling behind, including us.
In this article, we are going to review Semrush AI SEO Toolkit, telling you a little bit more about what their tool has to offer, their pricing, and why and why not you should consider it as a solution for your business.
Semrush AI SEO Toolkit Features
SEMrush's AI SEO toolkit was released as an add-on to their existing legacy SEO platform to help marketers and SEO teams understand how their brands perform across AI engines.
The AI Search space has become increasingly more competitive in the last few months. We believe that Semrush's offering for AI visibility is not as competitive as other tools out there in the market. Let's take a look at what their product has to offer.
Prompt Tracking
One of the must-have functionalities for any GEO tool is the ability to track custom prompts, and as you would expect, Semrush offers you this. If you don't know what prompt tracking is, it's basically the ability to track custom queries to your own liking that your customers are likely searching for in AI engines.
Semrush’s prompt tracking feature allows you to track your domain's position for your chosen prompts, monitor your average position and visibility, and see how your competitors are performing. However, what we did like about their prompt tracking functionality is the ability to view SERP snapshots so that you have a better understanding of the context of your rankings. This is great because you can actually see how your content is being mentioned and easily visualize which pieces of your content the AI engines find most relevant.
Let’s talk about what we didn’t like as much. At the time of writing this article, SEMrush AI SEO Toolkit only allows you to track prompts across ChatGPT and Google's AI mode, which, compared to most AI monitoring tools out there is quite limiting.
Prompt Research
Prompt research was perhaps one of our favorite functionalities about SEMrush's AI toolkit. Essentially, it's like their SEO keyword research but for the AI era. This feature allows you to check the volume and difficulty for given topics across AI engines. Although it is important to mention that right now AI engines within SEMrush include only ChatGPT and Google AI Mode.
With prompt research, you can visualize how often people are asking questions about a specific topic in AI engines. The intent behind the various prompts that compose topics and the brands that have the most visibility for that specific topic. Why and how is this helpful to your brand? Because you can easily see which topics are most relevant to your business and which ones are not as difficult to compete for. And therefore, you can create and optimize content for these low-hanging fruit topics.
AI Search Site Audit
Last but not least, another functionality we found quite helpful about their AI SEO toolkit is the AI Search Site Audit. This feature allows you to check for technical SEO aspects of your website to make sure that nothing is broken and that AI crawlers/AI bots can easily crawl your website for pulling information and giving it to AI engines whenever a user asks a question. All you have to do is just drop your website URL. You'll then be given a report with recommendations to fix any potential errors. You can re-run that report and monitor your performance over time.
Semrush AI SEO Toolkit Pricing
Semrush’s AI SEO Toolkit entry-level package starts at $99 per month, allowing you to track 25 prompts on a daily basis. If you compare this to most other AI monitoring tools out there, and especially given the fact that these 25 prompts are only being tracked for ChatGPT and Google AI mode, the value proposition is not that attractive.
However, it is also important to note that if you have an SEO subscription with Semrush, the number of prompts can increase depending on your subscription. For example, if you have an SEO Pro subscription from Semrush, the number of prompts you can track goes up to 50. If you have an SEO Guru subscription, the number of prompts goes up to 100. And if you have an SEO Business subscription, the number of prompts you can track goes up to 200.
So if you are already an existing Semrush customer, this may make the cost more justifiable. But if you don't and you compare the offering to other solutions out there, you can get better value elsewhere.
Is Semrush AI SEO Toolkit worth it?
If you are an existing SEMrush customer, the AI SEO toolkit might make sense for you. However, if you don't have a SEMrush subscription, we wouldn't recommend the SEMrush AI SEO Toolkit. For the money you'd be paying, you can get more value with other tools out there, given the AI engine Semrush supports and the number of prompts you can track.
