How to track traffic from ChatGPT
We work with over 50 companies, and one of the questions we get asked the most by our clients is: How can we track traffic from ChatGPT?
In this article, we will go through all of the recommendations and tips we tell our customers on how they can start tracking traffic from ChatGPT in this new era of search. Some of these will be extremely simple, whereas the others require a bit more work, although they're simple too.
Ask your customers
One of the most efficient ways to understand if you're getting traffic from ChatGPT is simply by asking your customers.
If you're a founder and you talk to your customers regularly, ask them. If your sales team is the one talking to customers more often, then instruct them to ask their customers where they found you. This way you will get direct feedback from your customers, your users, and you can also deep dive into the specific prompts and queries that your customers are searching for in ChatGPT and how they found you.
Product Onboarding Flow
Another really simple and effective way you can understand whether you're getting traffic from ChatGPT is by including an AI model or ChatGPT as an option on your product onboarding flow. This is something we've noticed amongst leading SaaS companies like Attio, Wispr Flow, and Framer. When you sign up for their products and go through their onboarding flow, ChatGPT or AM model is now an option as to how you found out about the product.
